A Crystal’s natural state is “feral”; basically, it goes wild and does whatever it wants. It’s pretty easy to make a Crystal feral, you just need to leave it alone, outside of a container, for a few minutes. Push two against each other, though, and they’ll happily go feral much faster!
Throwing away hard-won Crystals is extreme, which is why Nadav immediately went with “Rotem, roll Spirit”. That pushes the players even deeper into a corner – he’s signalling that this is a good time to go extreme. For this to work, you have to trust your GM. You have to trust they’re not trying to force you to get rid of your hard-earned “magic items”, that you’ll get compensated with a cool story and fun times.
