Such a simple example of player-based storytelling – suggesting what your character will do if X happens, in a way that is, in fact, telling everyone “I’d like X to happen in the story”. A good GM will pick up on that, consider this new information, and then perhaps allow X to happen; giving the impression X was going to happen anyway, whether that’s true or not, is optional.
